(Download

control of its own destiny."
| THE AGENDA | |||
8:00 - 9:00 Coffee and networking. 9:00 – 9:30 Welcome and introduction. 9:30 - 10:45 Fostering Community Online: Everybody's jumping into the community publishing game in ways small and large. Let's catch our breath and examine what has worked and what hasn't, get tips and advice from those in the trenches, and brainstorm some ideas to help us all. 11:00 - 12:15 Tracking Trends in Web Metrics: From the survival of the unique visitor to the potential demise of the page view and the efforts to measure total readership and market reach, how can we count our readers better? 12:30 - 2:00 Lunch. 1:00 - 2:00 Steve Yelvington will be the keynote speaker for NENMA’s Fall 2007 meeting. Steve’s talk will focus on how newspapers begin to shift from being simply providers of information to being builders or communities. For Steve, the challenge is energizing and empowering communities: "I’m advocating that we incite the population to take control of its own destiny." Steve is the principal strategist for Morris DigitalWorks. He currently concentrates on innovation processes and longterm strategic thinking on behalf of Morris Communications, which owns newspapers, radio stations, magazines, book publishing, and other businesses across the USA and in Europe. 2:15 - 3:30 Social Networking, Practice, Theory and Newspaper Applications: First it was forums, then blogs, now tools are coming fast and furious – from Twitter to Facebook and hundreds of other groupware tools. Newspapers (and online newspaper executives) are adopting social networking tools like for business and personal use. But who’s really making it work and connecting with readers? 3:45 - 5:00 Digital Media Speed Dating: You’re all familiar with the speed dating concept. This year’s buzz sessions will be formatted just the same way. You have three minutes with a partner to give your elevator speech on the best idea your site executed during the past year, then your partner will give you his and you’ll both move on. This will be an exciting way to collect great ideas and network with new people!
